Let's take a look at Terry Webster
I know I said I was going to write my thoughts on the episodes, but some of the first season episodes are just too hard for me to sit through. As a Mike and Jill fan, the non-Mike and Jill episodes, especially the first season, were not my favorites, although there were a few that I did like and I'll post on them in the future. Right now, I thought I'd go on a different tangent and talk about the characters. I'll go in the order that they're listed in the credits in order to be as fair and unbiased as I can. When I watched The Rookies during its original run, I'll admit I was not a big fan of Terry, Willie or Chris. My feelings for Terry changed with the episode 'Journey to Oblivion.' Watching the episodes I obtained later, I got a different perspective on Officer Terry Webster. He was a speech maker, which is part of his charm. But, he was also a great friend. Of the two guys he hung out with, I think he was actually better friends with Mike. Willie was his roommate and partner and Chris was also his partner, but I think Terry had more in common with Mike. Also, Terry cared a great deal for Jill, almost as much as Mike did. Mike knew that if anything ever happened to him, Terry would make sure that Jill was taken care of. Terry also cared a great deal about other people. This was especially evident in the episode 'Someone Who Cares.' When nobody else seemed to care about who that young girl was or how she died, Terry made it his business to not only find out who she was, but to find out the people responsible for her death. One of the classic scenes was when Michael Cristoffer (who played one of the punks) told Terry and Chris that they just wanted to have some fun. Terry had just finished taking his brother into custody when this was said. Terry grabbed the guy by his shirt collar and I think thought for about two seconds about just punching his lights out, but common sense intervened. In 'One-Way Street to Nowhere,' Terry was taken hostage by a group of militants who wanted their leader released from custody. He befriended the girlfriend of the leader and convinced her to help him escape by convincing her that her life was rapidly heading down a dead-end road, hence 'A one-way street to nowhere.' But, my all-time favorite episode featuring a great deal of Terry was 'Journey to Oblivion,' the last episode of the series. He had a couple of great scenes with Mike in that episode, but the kicker was the end when Jill walked out onto that train platform after Terry and Chris had killed Malone. The look on his face at seeing her alive was nothing short of priceless. Terry was probably the most rounded of the three guys. I say three because I lump Willie and Chris into one category. We have Terry the cop, the nice guy, the best friend, the hero and oh, let's not forget the snappy dresser. And that's what makes him so great. Those are my comments, but I'm dying to hear yours.
